Disruption of Cell Walls: HOCl rapidly penetrates the thin cell walls of pathogens, including bacteria and viruses. It disrupts the integrity of their cell walls, making them susceptible to further damage and difficult for them to develop antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Oxidation and Damage: Once inside the pathogens, HOCl oxidizes critical components of their cells, such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. This oxidation process damages and destroys the pathogen by disrupting multiple functions and rendering them ineffective or nonviable.
